WHAT IS THE CAUSE OF COMPRESSION FRACTURES PAIN?

Compression Fractures can cause severe debilitating pain in the trunk or lower back.

Compression Fractures are treatable with kyphoplasty or vertebroplasty.

  1. Vertebroplasty – this is a procedure where a needle is introduced into the bone (vertebrae) of the thoracic or lumbar spine and a small balloon is inflated.  Cement is placed into the cavity.  This often leads to immediate pain relief and reduction of the compression fracture.
  2. Vertebroplasty – this procedure is performed with a needle placed into the bones of the spine (vertebrae) done under flouroscopy (X-Ray).  Bone cement is placed into the vertebrae often with immediate pain relief.
